This is where a health coach can help.

Hi, I'm Chandra, a passionate registered Health Coach adept at improving patient health and well-being through effective coaching on positive lifestyle changes and weight management techniques. 

My coaching process is based on science, and backed by over 30 years of knowledge and experience from caring for people as a general physician across the world in India, Africa and the Middle East before emigrating to the U.S.A in 2015.

I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. 


Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? 

Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? 

As we work together, we will look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole. As a health coach I help clients develop strategies that will help improve self-efficacy and bring about a behavior change that would generate sustainable healthy life. Practice at connecting with clients of all ages and health levels.

I have not only provided one on one consulting but also have provided my services as a Health and Wellness consultant to Reserve Bank of Malawi, where I developed and executed a comprehensive wellness program for the employees of the bank. As part of this program I was responsible for promoting the overall health and wellness of the internal employee population.  This entailed setting the direction for employee-wide health and wellness initiatives, communicating those initiatives to the leadership team and to the general employee population and ensuring their success through well-defined measurement criteria.

It's nice to see a program that focuses on more than just weight loss but making it a lifestyle change where it's more about making the right choices and being accountable for your choices . I liked that there were elements where I was being accountable for my food and exercise , focusing on what makes me happy and less stressful .  The Reserve Bank of Malawi (The Bank) introduced the Wellness Health Program to holistically tackle Health & Safety issues in the Bank in order to promote physical and mental wellbeing of the Bank’s Human Resources so as to maximize productivity. Dr. Chandra Khemani was hired to conduct this first ever wellness Health program in the Bank I wish to commend Dr. Chandra Khemani to any local or international organization which wishes to hire her to facilitate a wellness Health Program to all levels of their respective employees.  We wish to advise that Dr. Chandra Khemani was a Wellness Health Consultant for the reserve bank of Malawi The main components and milestone of the Wellness Health Program that she conducted included provision of health and wellness assessment to members of staff. Provision of special needs in line with the findings of the initial business assessment. Provided stress management sessions, provision of one-to-one health and wellness coaching to Executive management, provision of lifestyle counseling and prevented medicine. Conducted seminars on overcoming addiction (smoking, alcohol and drug abuse) & brain power enhancement and group session on non-communicable diseases. The program managed to create awareness on good lifestyle and keep fit and improved preventive health seeking behaviors among members of the staff

Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is an estimate of how many calories you'd burn if you were to do nothing but rest for 24 hours. It represents the minimum amount of energy needed to keep your body functioning, including breathing and keeping your heart beating.


Use the BMR formula below to calculate a baseline:

Women BMR = 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years)
Men BMR = 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)

To find out how many calories you burn based on our activity level, use the Harris Benedict Formula:

If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calories Burned = BMR x 1.2


If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calories Burned = BMR x 1.375

 
If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calories Burned = BMR x 1.55

 
If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calories Burned = BMR x 1.725 


If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calories Burned = BMR x 1.9
